The filter is a sponge-like permanent filter, ie it can be kept for many months and can and should be washed out or boiled regularly so that it remains germ-free and clean. In general, however, the filter is not necessary for normal operation - it should only be an aid for cats with long hair or for cat lovers who have several cats using the Lucky-Kitty or whose cats prefer to put cat litter or leftover food in the drinking fountain. Of course, you can also use it with short-haired cats if you want to save yourself one or the other cleaning. The Lucky-Kitty cat fountain then needs to be cleaned less often. Nevertheless, we recommend at least one thorough cleaning per week, for the sake of the cats.
